Open Position Descriptions

The Committee's objective is to keep the site fresh and useful over the coming years. To that end, we're actively seeking volunteers to help in both technical and non-technical roles.

Current Web Development & Maintenance Committee Members: Carolyn DeCristofano, Randy Sullivan, Max West, Brian Wick, Jon Wilhelmsen, Steven Ziglar

Required for all positions:

  • High-speed Internet access
  • Familiarity and regular access to an Email account
  • Willingness to commit an average of 2 hours per week
  • Desire to be involved in community

Photographer
Responsibilities
Capture images and video of Plympton, its events and people; prep images and information about them for use on the Plympton Web site.

Skills

  • Access to a medium or high-resolution digital camera, and ability to operate it
  • Ability and willingness to use a scanner to create electronic copies of traditional photographic prints
  • Ability to prepare images for Web site use by including all available pertinent and interesting information of each image (such as names, places and events)
  • Willingness to work with the current Web team to understand needs and standards and to determine which images are Web worthy

News Reporter
Responsibilities
Scout out and write brief, interesting stories about people, places and events of Plympton, by interviewing organizations, committees, and individuals.

Sample topics:

  • Hearings that are developing, and what decisions are being made
  • Proposed bylaws
  • Open Town government positions that need to be filled

Skills

  • Strong people skills
  • Good writing skills
  • Capacity to make the material Web-ready by assembling related images and packaging for Webmasters
  • Willingness to work with the current Web team, including editors and other reporters, to create stories that are consistent with the Web site guidelines.

Editor
Responsibilities
Check facts, spelling, and other details to ensure consistent, high quality of Web site content, and generally perform other traditional editor responsibilities.

Skills

  • Attention to detail and persistence
  • Sensitivity to project target dates and commitment to meeting them
  • Willingness to apply Web site editorial guidelines for content and style
  • Writing/editorial abilities
  • Willingness to work with the current Web team and serve as liaison between reporters and webmasters
  • Willingness to review the site regularly for inconsistencies, missing or incomplete content, etc.

Data Analyst
Responsibilities
Seek out information that could be of interest to the people of Plympton and those visiting the site.

Skills

  • Persistence and patience
  • Willingness to learn straightforward, computer-based tasks
  • Willingness to apply Web site editorial guidelines when setting priorities about and preparing content
  • Willingness to work with the current Web team
  • Ability to foster relationships with Town organizations that enhance their participation in providing content for the Web site.

 

Webmaster
Responsibilities
Help develop and maintain content on the Plympton Web site. Serve in a monthly rotation for Webmaster duty; post material to Web site.

Skills

  • Computer skills are critical. HTML and/or software development experience is a plus but not required
  • Willingness to contribute ideas and technical knowledge in the pursuit of maintaining a high-quality, informational website
  • Availability to serve in monthly rotation for Webmaster duty (which entails site maintenance and development)
  • Willingness to work with the current Web team.
