CATO'S RIDGE PRESERVE w/ Churchill Park & O'Neil Marsh

The creation of Churchill Park, a Community Preservation project, and Cato’s Ridge Conservation Area was overwhelmingly approved by town meeting in 2012. The O’Neil Marsh was donated to the town by resident Roger O’Neil in October, 2015, bringing the Preserve’s total acreage to 105. A network of trails has been developed which make it possible to stroll between the Preserve's entrances on Main Street (at the intersection with Maple Street) and Ring Road (opposite #28). The highlight of the new area is an impressive 600-foot long boardwalk that carries visitors across the wetlands surrounding Jones River Brook.

The Preserve was created for a total net cost to the town of $19,000 from Community Preservation Funds. The boardwalk and other park amenities were built with volunteer labor and financed through a very successful fundraising campaign in 2014.  The boardwalk has been outfitted with benches and contains 1200 planks, many of which are inscribed with family names, remembrances, and sentiments.

The Preserve is open every day from dawn to dusk. Parking is available in a small lot off Main Street or by the Dennett School gate.  Families are encouraged to bring their children and come see the results of this wonderful community effort.

Two Brooks Preserve is under the care and management of the Plympton Conservation Commission and the Plympton Open Space Committee. To contact us, please call the Town House at (781) 317-9317 or come to one of our meetings.
