Tree Warden:
Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What should I do if I notice a hazardous tree within the Town?
A. Contact the Tree Warden at the home phone or leave a message on the emergency number with your name, telephone number, and location of the hazardous tree. A return call, as well as an inspection of the tree, will be made.
Q. I have some trees in my yard I would like removed. How do I find out if they are located on Town land?
A. Contact the Tree Warden. The Tree Warden will visit the site to determine the ownership of the tree. This sometimes has to be followed up with Town road layouts, which the department will review to verify boundaries. This varies from street to street, so maps are sometimes needed.
Q. A tree fell on the wires; do I call the Town or the power company?
A. Contact the Town Police or Fire Department. This can be a dangerous situation. By calling the Town we can respond quickly and secure the area then notify the utility company. Remember to always stay away from wires.
Q. I had a tree fall in my yard (or on my house wires); does the Town take care of that?
A. Damage done within the homeowner’s property is the homeowner’s responsibility, but if you feel there is an immediate safety concern, call the Police Department and the situation will be evaluated. Better to be safe than sorry.
Q. I would like to plant some trees along the street on my property. Do I need to contact the Town?
A. Yes, although it is usually not a problem, a visit to the site by the Tree Warden will ensure your trees are planted in the proper locations, and that they will neither pose a hazard to passersby, nor subject to removal due to road clearing or power line maintenance. We would like to see that the trees you plant are not disturbed in years to come.
