Transfer Station:
About
General Information Plympton's "Transfer Station" is located on Ring Road, and is the site to which residents and private haulers bring trash and recyclables. Unlike "The Dump" in other towns, the Transfer Station is a collection point. The trash and recyclables are periodically transferred to SEMASS for final disposal. The Plympton Highway Department manages the Transfer Station for the Town of Plympton. What you can do The cost of trash is getting out of control. We need help recycling for many reasons. This is good for the environment, for the future of our children and for our immediate cost. The cost of disposing a ton of paper products is distinctly less than the cost of a ton of trash. Food products are a particular problem because they are so heavy. This includes food scraps, apple peals, watermelon rinds and those fuzzy little things that are found in the back of the refrigerator. These items can be composted in your backyard along with grass clippings and leaves. Concrete blocks can be used to contain this composting pile to limit animal intrusion. Each pound that is composted saves about 5 cents. If each family could compost 10 pounds per week, separate their plastic, bottles and paper products (don't forget that includes cardboard, newspaper, junk mail, etc) we could save up to $40,000/year. We need your help in this matter. The state recommends a pay-as-you-throw program similar to the system that Halifax has. We believe that an intensive education program will work just as well.
