How do I file for a marriage license?

Marriage License Information:

The fee to file your marriage intention is $15.00. There is a $10.00 fee to receive a certified copy of the marriage license once the officiant/justice of the peace signs the marriage license. These fees may be paid together during the intentions appointment or separately. Also, it is not necessary to order a certified copy of your marriage license, although, this is the documentation that is used by many institutions/industries for proof of name changes, insurance additions, etc.

There is a three (3) day waiting period from the date you file your intention before the license can be issued to you.

The license is valid for 60 days from the date you file your intention, so please plan accordingly.

Both parties must apply together in the Town Clerk's Office to file the marriage intention and you must provide proof of identity:
Birth certificate (or some proof of citizenship like a passport)
A photo ID (like a driver's license)
If you're under 18, you need proof of consent by a parent.

Please call 781-585-3220 for an appointment to be sure of our availability due to our limited hours.

The Town of Plympton Town Clerk is not a Justice of the Peace and/or Commissioned with the State of MA to perform marriage ceremonies.
