Historical Commission:
Historical Inventories
A major role of the Plympton Historical Commission is to survey and inventory the town's historical assets such as buildings, cemeteries and monuments. A set of building inventories was completed by the Commission in the early 1970's (before Plympton even had street numbers!). The Commission formed and disbanded several times since then. With significant help from the Massachusetts Dept. of Conservation and Recreation and a team of preservation consultants, the current Commission has assembled the inventories below. We hope to expand the inventories in a multi-year effort.
Areas Cemeteries Buildings
The Commission has been aware of the need to conduct a complete survey of the town's historic assets for a number of years, but the town’s financial outlook has prevented the Commission from moving forward. With the availability of Community Preservation Act funds, the Commission submitted and received funding for a pre-survey report to produce a detailed plan for updating, correcting and expanding the existing inventory to meet current survey standards established by MHC. The pre-survey also provides cost guidelines regarding the various phases of a town-wide historical asset survey. The results and details of the pre-survey is included below. It is the hope of the Commission that we will be able to proceed with either a partial or complete survey in 2012 to support future historic preservation efforts.
